Longacre Tavern in 2010 heavily boarded up. It closed in 2009 after the landord Mervyn Thomas retired.

There has been a pub on this London Road site since the 1840s, though the present building is a classic example of late 1960s design.

The Porter Butt, situated at York Place on the London Road opposite the Esso Garage, was a popular quiz venue and music pub (the Walcot Palais) back in the day. It was first recorded in 1787 but may be much older and closed in 2009. Andy Tanner was the last landlord.
