The Porter is currently closed whilst undergoing a major refurbishment. The intention is to create an all-day venue with an underground bar featuring live music, a restaurant on the ground floor, a relaxed bar on the first floor as well as private dining and conference rooms.

The project is due to complete with a grand opening in late summer.

Punch Taverns have had this pub on the market for the last two years with no takers and have now applied for planning permission to change the use of the building to housing.

Regulars have raised a petition calling for the Richmond to remain aa a pub and they already have around 100 signatures.

Ian Wood, the Bell’s owner, has put it up for sale.

His Facebook message states:

“Dear community of Walcot,
it is with great sadness that I am announcing that my time at the Bell is going to come to an end, I’m going to sell up.
It’s been 23 great years and now it is time for someone else to take the pub over. I am very proud of the eclectic team of people who make this pub so special.
There is such a great feeling of community and such humour, I will really miss the place, it is by far the best pub in the world.
It is an institution, thank you all for making it so special. Owning a pub like this has been the fulfilment of a dream, but this dream I was having many years ago. I now have new dreams and a new direction, and my heart is not in it any more. One love to you all, it’s been special x”

Currently closed, the New Westhall has been taken over by the Banwell House Group. It will re-open as the “Victoria Pub and Kitchen” on November 30th.

The Curfew is now being run by a Michelin starred chef. Rob Pearce who has moved from the Ragged Cot at Minchinhampton in Gloucestershire, is head chef as well as manager.

The pub on the ground floor has been restored to a traditional bar while upstairs is now a Georgian townhouse dining room for up to 50 people.

The Bath Slug and Lettuce, currently the subject of a £250,000 refurbishment, will reopen on September 28th at 8:00 pm. The first 200 customers through the door will enjoy a red carpet reception with canapes, fire jugglers and stilt walkers.
